Dr. Ashley Kuhn rejoined FGCU in April 2023 as the Director of the Hartley Academic Resource Center. In this role, she oversees athletic academic advising, academic support, and student-athlete development. Dr. Kuhn is also a member of the Athletics Executive Staff and Academic Engagement unit Leadership Team and serves as the sport supervisor for beach volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country.
Before returning to FGCU, Dr. Kuhn held positions as Director and Associate Director of Academic Advising at Florida SouthWestern College, where she led strategic planning and managed advising teams across multiple campuses. During her earlier tenure at FGCU (August 2017 - January 2021), she served as Assistant Director of the Hartley Academic Resource Center, supporting various athletic teams and managing tutors and mentors. She also worked as an Academic Advisor II in FGCU's Whitaker College of Engineering.
Dr. Kuhn's prior experience includes serving as Coordinator of Academic Training Programs/Learning Specialist at the University of Florida, where she developed support programs for student-athletes with learning disabilities and collaborated on ADHD and concussion protocols. She also worked as an assistant learning specialist and advising intern at UF, focusing on student-athlete skill enhancement and degree progress.
Dr. Kuhn holds a B.S. in Psychology, a B.A. in Criminology, an M.A. in Criminology and Law, and a Ph.D. in Sociology and Criminology and Law, all from the University of Florida. Her doctoral research, "Faculty Perceptions of Student-Athlete Deviance: A Big Ten and SEC Comparison," received the N4A Academic Research Award in 2017.
Dr. Kuhn is actively involved in professional organizations, including the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Women Leaders in College Sports. She has served as chair of the N4A research committee and Division Director of Educational Services and Initiatives on the N4A Board of Directors. She is also a graduate of the N4A Professional Development Institute and the Women Leaders in College Sports Institute of Administrative Advancement.
Dr. Kuhn resides in Fort Myers with her husband, Alton, and their four children: Kennedy, Payton, Maxwell, and Annie.
