Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Kate-Lynn Rice is a Student Athlete Academic Coordinator here at FGCU. She began her journey to FGCU first by completing her bachelor’s degree in 2022 at The Pennsylvania State University with a major in History and a minor in English. From there, Kate-Lynn pursued her master’s in education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction. While completing her graduate program, she was granted an internship by Penn State Athletics as an Academic Support Assistant working with Men’s Football. Kate-Lynn spent the two years of her graduate program working as an intern from 2022 to 2024, gaining experience in providing one-on-one support for the student-athletes. She also collaborated with recruiting staff by holding conversations with prospective students about academics at the university and the many different resources offered.
Kate-Lynn had used her learned experience at Penn State to seek a full-time opportunity within college athletics, which led her to the University of Utah. There from the summer of 2024 to the winter of 2025, she had worked with a plethora of sports, notably Men’s Football, Men’s Baseball, and Men’s Basketball. As a Learning Specialist, Kate-Lynn worked with many resources on campus, notably the Center for Disability and Access and the Learning Center to ensure that all student-athletes were provided sufficient support while they were enrolled at the university. Additionally, she had taken on the role of Mentor Coordinator for the mentor program, taking charge of the hiring and monitoring of all employed mentors.
After her time at Utah, she traveled back east to be here in the sunny state of Florida as our newest student athlete academic coordinator. While here, she works closely with our Men’s Basketball, Men’s Tennis, and Men’s Soccer teams. Additionally, she works closely with the Women’s Tennis, Women’s Swim and Dive, and Women’s Volleyball teams. Kate-Lynn values being adaptable and ethical in her work with both students and colleagues as she gains cherished personal and professional development.
