FORT MYERS, Fla. – Head coach Jim Blankenship and Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer hire Alex Ng as an assistant coach.
"Extremely excited to welcome Alex to our staff and team," Blankenship said. "He comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the soccer world."
Ng arrives to FGCU with Big Ten coaching experience and also serves as a Network Talent ID Scout with US Soccer to identify, evaluate and recommend female players for the United States' National Teams. Ng has also been named to the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 Program.
"I am incredibly excited to begin working at such an exciting and historically successful program," Ng said. "I want to thank Jim and the search committee for their support and belief in me throughout the hiring process. The opportunity for me to come home to the state of Florida, work with incredible student-athletes and learn from one of the most successful coaches in college women's soccer was one that I could not pass up. In my short time on campus, I could tell that FGCU was a special place with world-class facilities and one of the best campuses in the country. I plan to jump straight in, work hard and do everything in my power to elevate this program into a national power."
He spent last season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Maryland. Ng led all recruiting efforts and was a part of a staff that brought in the 11th ranked recruiting class in the nation for the class of 2023 and the 19th ranked recruiting class for the class of 2024. Before Maryland, Ng spent two seasons (2021-22) at Richmond.
As an assistant coach for the Spiders, Ng helped to direct Richmond to a six-win improvement during his final season, as the Spiders secured seven wins and advanced to its first Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance in seven years. Richmond finished the season with the program's most conference wins since 2011, and all five of those wins came by way of a shutout.
Ng first started his coaching career in 2015, becoming a student assistant for Valparaiso for three years. In 2019, he moved on to Indiana as the director of soccer operations and video analyst for the Hoosiers, where they secured eight wins and a Big Ten Tournament berth in their first year on staff.
There, he oversaw all aspects of sports performance, including training periodization, training and match warm-ups, weight lifting programs, formulating individual athlete development plans and off-season programming.
Ng is a native of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and played collegiate football at Valparaiso as a punter.
