Katie Detlefsen is in her sixth season as a member of the FGCU women’s golf coaching staff. The 2020-21 campaign will be her fourth as a volunteer assistant coach.

Detlefsen, who helps in the development of FGCU golfers in all aspects and aids in furthering relationships with the Southwest Florida community, joined FGCU with a strong background in golf competition and instruction.
 
A 2011 graduate of Central Florida, Detlefsen was instrumental to the success of the women’s golf program. She was an All-Conference USA selection while becoming a three-time Conference USA All-Academic team selection. In fact, her strong academic standing also allowed her to become a four-time National Golf Coaches’ Association All-American Scholar.
 
As a junior, Detlefsen earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American status and received the prestigious Dinah Shore Award from the LPGA, which is given to one recipient per year across the NCAA and recognizes a recipient who has shown excellence in the classroom, on the golf course and has demonstrated leadership skills and extraordinary community service work.
 
Upon graduation, Detlefsen earned TPI certification and became a TrackMan Level 2 Teaching Professional. The LPGA Class A member also competed on the Symetra Tour and appeared on the Golf Channel’s Big Break: Myrtle Beach in 2014. She is currently a golf pro at Raptor Bay Golf Academy in Bonita Springs.
 
Prior to her time with Central Florida, Detlefsen was an accomplished amateur and high school competitor. At Minnehaha Academy, she earned was a four-time Minnesota Class A individual state champion and set the Minnesota state record for lowest score, most titles won and greatest margin of victory.
 
The Eagen, Minn. native, who is the sister of former FGCU golf standout Sara Detlefsen, earned a bachelors in advertising and public relations in her first two and a half years at UCF and also completed a masters in mass communications with a 4.0 GPA throughout her time as a student-athlete.
