Nelson provided steady leadership at the point guard position and came through in big moments for the FGCU women’s basketball team in her two seasons. She finished her career ranked among the program’s top 10 in PPG (8.8), free throw percentage (.718), assists (198), assists/game (3.0) and blocks (24) in the Division-I era.

Nelson, perhaps, had one of the most consistent careers from the free throw line – finishing 62-for-87 (.713) as a junior and 63-for-87 (.724) as a senior. She concluded her career with 582 points, which is 15th best in the Division-I era. Furthermore, she averaged 8.9 points in ASUN play, which is the 10th best career scoring average in program history.

Nelson tallied 11 double-digit scoring games as a senior to conclude her FGCU career with 24. She ranked among the ASUN leaders in assist to turnover ratio (2.1, 3rd), assists per game (4.2, 3rd), assists (54, 4th), 3-point field goal percentage (34.1, 11th), steals per game (1.3, 14th) and 3-point field goal per game (1.1, 16th). Following the season, she was named the team’s co-most improved player along with Nasrin Ulel.

In 2017-18, the team’s most heated rival in conference play was Jacksonville, and Nelson’s play against them allowed FGCU to claim home court advantage in the ASUN tournament and knock off the Dolphins in the championship. In the first matchup on Jan. 27, she scored 14 points and made 9-for-10 from the foul line. Her .900 free throw percentage in that game is tied for the 20th best in program history and tied for 13th in the Division-I era. The nine made free throws is tied also tied for the 13th most in the Division-I era and is tied for the sixth most against an ASUN opponent all-time.

With first place in the standings and likely home court advantage for the ASUN tournament on the line Feb. 3 in Jacksonville, Nelson had four points and two assists, but it was her one steal in the final seconds that allowed FGCU to claim a 65-63 victory. She then tallied nine points, five rebounds and two assists in another close win over Jacksonville on March 11 in the ASUN championship.

Nelson’s eight assists against USC Upstate on Feb. 10 is tied for the seventh most in a single game in the Division-I era. She also became one of just 20 players in program history to make at least 6-for-6 from the foul line against an ASUN opponent on Feb. 1 against North Florida.

Individually, Nelson finished fifth on the team in scoring (8.5/game) while leading the team in assists (3.5/game) and tallying the second most steals (50).

Nelson opened her FGCU career with four straight double-digit scoring performances, including a 21-point outburst against Florida International on Nov. 15 where she went 8-for-12 from the field. Later, she had a pair of 18-point outbursts against Ave Maria on Dec. 4 and USC Upstate on Jan. 23. In the ASUN semifinal against Jacksonville, she went 8-for-13 from the field and 8-for-9 from the foul line to finish with a career-high 27 points. In fact, that scoring total was the second highest when it happened and remains the fourth most in an ASUN tournament game in program history through the 2017-18 season.

Nelson set career-highs in field goals made (99) and offensive rebounds (15) as a junior while ranking second on the team with 9.2 per contest. In 31 games (26 starts), she recorded 13 double-digit scoring performances, eclipsing 20 points twice.

As a junior, Nelson produced 11 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the foul line in the ASUN quarterfinals. It remains one of 28 instances in Alico Arena history a player has made at least six from the line without missing. She followed that game up with a career-high 27 points against Jacksonville on March 8 in the championship game, which is tied for the 17th-most points in a game in the Division-I era, and she finished 8-for-9 (.889) from the foul line in that game, which is the 16th best percentage in the program’s Division-I era.

Earlier, she recorded one of 19 instances of a player making at least six without missing against an ASUN team in a win over Lipscomb on Jan. 14. Overall, she led the team in scoring six times and ranked second on the team with 2.4 assists per game.

As A Freshman and Sophomore at Johnson County C.C. (2014-16)
Nelson led Johnson County to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II national championship as a freshman and helped the team to a 31-1 record as a sophomore, which included an undefeated regular season. Her team won the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) title and finished the year ranked third nationally as a sophomore and fourth as a freshman. She became the third player in program history to record a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over Fort Scott.
 
Nelson scored 828 points and dished out 313 assists in two seasons while leading her team to a 65-3 record. As a sophomore, she led the team in scoring with 16.6 per contest while draining 80 from 3-point range. Following her sophomore year, she was named All-KJCCC, an NJCAA First Team All-American and a WBCA First Team All-American. She was ranked 44th among all junior college prospects according to the Dan Olsen Report.
