LeAnn Freeland served four years as an assistant coach at FGCU from 2003-07. During her time, she also served as the assistant NCAA compliance coordinator in the athletic department.

Following her time at FGCU, Freeland went on to become the head coach at the University of Indianapolis until 2011 when she left to take the head coaching job at Nova Southeastern University, where she currently is as of the summer of 2018.

A 1998 graduate of Southern Indiana University, Freeland earned her Masters degree in elementary education from SIU in 2000. She was an assistant coach at Southern Indiana from 1999-03, helping lead the program to 78 wins, one conference regular season title and two conference tournament championships, as well as two NCAA tournament appearances. The 2001 squad advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. She spent the 1998-99 year as a social studies teacher and head coach of the volleyball and basketball coach at Castle Junior High in Newburgh, Indiana.

A three-time Kodak first-team All-American, Freeland was the College Sports Magazine's National Player of the Year in 1995. She was also a two-time Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and earned three-straight all-conference awards. She was inducted into the GLVC Hall of Fame in 2004.

Freeland set six career records, including scoring (2,269) and rebounding (961), as well as three single-season marks as a player. She led her team to a 91-24 mark, two conference titles and three NCAA tournament appearances. She led the team to a national runner-up finish as a senior. 

In 1996, she was a third-team GTE CoSIDA Academic All-American and a first-team Academic All-American in 1997. An Academic All-GLVC selection for three years, she received the 1997 Richard A. Scharf Paragon Award for female student-athlete of the year in the GLVC.
