Ruiz is a lifelong Eagle having played his collegiate tennis in Fort Myers, graduating with an MBA and a bachelor’s in business management from FGCU.
Getting a team to gel has been a staple of Ruiz’s career. He graduated as part of the second winningest doubles team with partner Felipe Escobar and the duo became the first doubles pair in FGCU history to receive a wild card to the Oracle ITA National Championships. Â
Following his graduation, Ruiz continued his commitment to the Green and Blue as an assistant coach from 2019-20 and 2023. Ruiz also coached privately in Southwest Florida including Naples native Chelsea Bluestein who committed to Iowa.
Ruiz also played professionally in his native Colombia on the ATP tour ranking No. 1071 in doubles and No. 1237 in singles, winning the Colombia F8 Futures doubles title in 2015.
