Mateo Ruiz completed his first season as an assistant coach with Weber's team in 2020. 
A former standout for Coach Weber's team, Ruiz finished his career after winning both the ASUN regular season and tournament titles in the Spring of 2019. He finished his career with the Green and Blue ranked second in overall doubles wins, racking up 47 in just three seasons in Fort Myers. He and his doubles partner, Felipe Escobar, became the first pair in FGCU history to receive a wild card to the Oracle ITA National Championship in the Fall of 2018. 
Ruiz is originially from Colombia and came to FGCU in 2016 after spending his freshman year at Oklahoma State. He has been playing tennis since age 12.
