Eduardo Villarreal

Eduardo Villarreal was named the interim head coach of the FGCU men's soccer program on Dec. 18 following his second season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach with FGCU in 2016. In his second year with the team he will oversee the goalkeepers, in addition to assisting with coaching technical and tactical skills to help improve players’ abilities to read the game and advance their individual development. Additionally, he assists with defensive and offensive strategies while developing lesson plans and team activities.
 
Villarreal has five different coaching certifications. He is also currently the Goalkeeping Director and Head Coach for the GPS (Global Premier Soccer) Florida Knights. Villarreal has experience with the Lee County Strikers (Director of Development, 2012-15), Laurel High School (Volunteer Assistant Goalkeeper Coach, 2011-12), the University of Southern Mississippi Soccer Club (Head Coach, 2008-11) and CEGSO F.C. in Mexico (Volunteer Head Coach, 2000-04).
 
A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Villarreal graduated from Southern Miss with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2007. He received his Master’s degree in Teaching of Languages from Southern Miss in 2011 and moved to Southwest Florida in July of 2012. He is currently a Spanish Instructor at FGCU and lives in Estero with his wife, Tatiana, and daughters, Eva (6), and Luna (2).
