Will Chlebek joined FGCU Men’s Basketball in July 2024 as an assistant coach.
In this role, he assists with film operations for practices and games, manages travel logistics, and supports the day-to-day operations of the program. He is also involved in on-court workouts with the team’s players.
In his second year as an assistant coach, Chlebek assisted FGCU in numerous accomplishments, including the first ASUN semifinal appearance since 2021 and the first time with multiple ASUN Tournament wins since 2018. FGCU went on its longest home winning streak since 2022, and its longest home conference winning streak since 2019 with six consecutive wins at home to close out the season. That streak included an electric overtime win over Central Arkansas on senior day that featured multiple SportsCenter Top 10 highlights in JR Konieczny’s halfcourt inbounds pass to Isaiah Malone for the buzzer-beating, game-tying layup in regulation, and Jordan Ellerbee’s game-winning fastbreak dunk in overtime.
The FGCU defense buoyed it to the winning streak and ASUN semifinal appearance, as the Eagles led the conference in field goal percentage defense (44.7%) and 2-point field goal percentage defense (52.1%). FGCU averaged 36.91 rebounds per game, leading the ASUN. The Eagles 11 home wins marked the first time since 2017-18 and 2018-19 with back-to-back years with double-digit victories at Alico Arena after 11 home wins in the 2024-25 campaign.
Konieczny was named to the second team All-ASUN and to the ASUN All-Tournament team. Isaiah Malone was tabbed the conference Defensive Player of the Year, and Jordan Ellerbee earned an All-Freshman team selection.
Defense and rebounding was the Eagles’ theme in 2024-25, as FGCU led the conference in field goal percentage defense (42.5%) and rebound margin (plus-3.5). The Eagles made a run to the CBI semifinals with a 19-15 campaign that featured 13 ASUN wins and 11 wins at Alico Arena. In-state wins over FIU at home (60-59, November 24) and at FAU (80-78, November 30) highlighted the nonconference slate. FGCU dominated at home during ASUN play, going 8-1 with five double-digit wins. That home record propelled FGCU to a third-place conference finish, the program’s best since the 2018-19 season (tied for third place).
Chlebek earned his undergraduate degree from FGCU in 2023. During his time as a student, he served as a student manager for head coach Pat Chambers in his first year with the program.
After graduating, Chlebek transitioned to a graduate assistant position at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in Creston, Iowa, starting in August 2023. At SWCC, his responsibilities included assisting with program logistics, developing scouting reports, and facilitating on-court workouts. During his one year with the program, SWCC achieved its highest win total since 2017.
A Naples, Florida, native, Chlebek enjoys playing golf and watching football in his free time. His brother, Ryan, is also on the FGCU staff.
