Former Penn State standout Shep Garner joined the FGCU men’s basketball program in April 2022 as the Director of Video Operations. He enters his third season with FGCU in 2024-25.
 
Garner was a standout at Penn State during FGCU head coach Pat Chambers’ time in Happy Valley and a key figure in helping the program win the 2018 NIT Championship. The shooting guard still ranks as the No. 6 scorer in program history with 1,629 points, started 133-of-138 games played, and logged 4,443 career minutes – second in Big Ten history. As a senior in 2018, he set a Penn State and Big Ten record for made three pointers (120) and finished his career as the program’s all-time leader in career threes (336). He was a part of 75 wins during his career which was the most in a four-year span in the program’s Big Ten era when he graduated.
 
Following his Penn State career, Garner played with the Grand Rapids Drive during the 2018-19 G-League season before then playing internationally for Venados de Mazatlan of the CIBACOPA (Mexico). With Grand Rapids, he played in 42 games averaging just under six points per game. He played in just two games with Venados de Mazatlan before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
He began his coaching career during the 2021-22 season where he was an assistant coach at Chester High School in his hometown of Chester, Pa. He helped guide the Clippers to a District 1 Class 5A championship.
 
Prior to playing at Penn State, Garner was a three-time All-Catholic and All-Pennsylvania honoree at Roman Catholic in Philadelphia. He scored 1,000 points and averaged just under 16 points per game over his career.
