David Caporaletti

  • Title
    Assistant Coach/Chief of Staff
David Caporaletti continued his longtime relationship alongside head coach Pat Chambers when he was named Chief of Staff / Assistant to the Head Coach at FGCU in July 2022. The duo have known and worked with each other since attending Philadelphia University in the early 1990's. Caporaletti is the only assistant to be on Chambers’ staff every year at FGCU entering the 2026-27 campaign.

In his fourth season in Fort Myers, he helped FGCU to numerous accomplishments during the 2025-26 season, including the first ASUN semifinal appearance since 2021 and the first time winning multiple games in the ASUN Tournament since 2018. FGCU went on its longest home winning streak since 2022, and its longest home conference winning streak since 2019 with six consecutive wins at home to close out the season, including an electric overtime win over Central Arkansas on senior day that featured multiple SportsCenter Top 10 highlights in JR Konieczny’s halfcourt inbounds pass to Isaiah Malone for the buzzer-beating, game-tying layup in regulation, and Jordan Ellerbee’s game-winning fastbreak dunk in overtime..

The FGCU defense buoyed it to the winning streak and ASUN semifinal appearance, as the Eagles led the conference in field goal percentage defense (44.7%) and 2-point field goal percentage defense (52.1%). FGCU’s identity of rebounding was also on display, as the team’s 36.91 rebounds per game led the ASUN. The Eagles 11 home wins marked the first time since 2017-18 and 2018-19 with back-to-back years with double-digit victories at Alico Arena.

Defense and rebounding was the Eagles’ theme in 2024-25, as FGCU led the conference in field goal percentage defense (42.5%) and rebound margin (plus-3.5). The Eagles made a run to the CBI semifinals with a 19-15 campaign that featured 13 ASUN wins and 11 wins at Alico Arena. In-state wins over FIU at home (60-59, November 24) and at FAU (80-78, November 30) highlighted the nonconference slate. FGCU dominated at home during ASUN play, going 8-1 with five double-digit wins. That home record propelled FGCU to a third-place conference finish, the program’s best since the 2018-19 season (tied for third place).

In his second season, the Eagles finished tied for sixth sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season standings with an 8-8 league record. The Eagles would also pick up a 24-point win over ASUN champion Stetson on January 20, 2024. FGCU closed the regular season with three straight league wins, topping Queens at home, then beating North Florida and Jacksonville on the road. Zach Anderson was named Third Team All-ASUN, with Rahmir Barno named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team. Anderson also picked up ASUN Player of the Week honors during the season, with Dallion Johnson and Keeshawn Kellman earning ASUN Newcomer of the Week recognition.

The Eagles went 17-15 in 2022-23 in Caporaletti and Chambers’ first year. One of the highlights of the season included winning the 2022 Gulf Coast Showcase at Hertz Arena, defeating Northern Kentucky, Drexel, and Kansas City en route to the title.

Prior to FGCU, Caporaletti spent 10 seasons as a member of the Penn State basketball staff where he served as the program’s director of player development. The Philadelphia native was responsible for the implementation of schedules and programs to promote student-athlete success. He also oversaw the scheduling of team events, equipment ordering and distribution, and overall program advancement initiatives.

During the summer 2020, Caporaletti met the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic with innovative solutions and collaboration with the basketball staff and colleagues across Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics.

From 2015-17, Caporaletti served as the program’s director of operations. He moved to the operations role after three years as Penn State basketball’s recruiting coordinator.

Charged with managing the Nittany Lions’ recruiting efforts, Caporaletti was responsible for the coordination of all official and unofficial prospective student-athlete visits. From 2012-15, the Nittany Lion coaching staff laid the groundwork for the top two recruiting classes in the program’s history, signing a top-30 class in 2015 and top-25 class a year later.

Caporaletti also served as the director of Penn State men’s basketball camps and assisted with the coordination of community and camp appearances. He still works with the Penn State Hoops Club, helps organize other Penn State men’s basketball alumni functions and is involved with the Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer©.

In 2010, Caporaletti was tapped to handle logistics and administrative support for the Boston University program alongside Chambers. The Terriers posted a 21-14 record that season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002 after winning the America East Conference championship.

At BU, Caporaletti assisted with the organization of official and unofficial prospective student-athlete visits while also helping coordinate travel arrangements and academic support for the team. Caporaletti also managed the organization and promotion of all basketball clinics.

Caporaletti was a long-time business owner in Philadelphia prior to joining the Terrier basketball program. His experience in collegiate athletics includes working with Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame coaches Herb Magee at Philadelphia University and the late Rollie Massimino at Keiser University.

Caporaletti earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in May of 1993 from Philadelphia University, now known as Thomas Jefferson University.

He and his wife, Amanda, have a son, Eugene Paul.
