Wes Sargent joined the FGCU baseball staff as an assistant coach in July 2016.
In his first year back in Fort Myers, FGCU turned in its most successful season in program history that included a program record 43 wins, its first ASUN Tournament Championship, and the first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, where the Eagles earned the No. 2 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional and defeated No. 3 Michigan, 10-6, in its first contest. Sargent helped mentor Nick Rivera to ASUN Player of the Year honors and Richie Garcia to ASUN Freshman of the Year accolades. Additionally, Rivera was named a Perfect Game/Rawlings Third-Team All-American, and Garcia was tabbed a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
In his role with the Eagles, Sargent's primary off-field responsibility includes assisting in the program's recruiting efforts, which has been nationally recognized by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in previous seasons.
A 2014 graduate of FGCU, Sargent played infield and catcher for the Green and Blue during the 2011 and 2012 seasons before transitioning to a coaching role and serving as a student assistant and director of baseball operations during his final two years on the Southwest Florida campus.
Originally from Clearwater, Fla., Sargent joined FAU head coach John McCormack and his staff in the fall of 2014 and served as the team's director of operations in his first season with the Owls. In the summer of 2015, he assumed the position of volunteer assistant coach while still overseeing the team's operations. Along with his coaching and operational duties, Sargent served as the team's camp director for both the youth and high school camps hosted by FAU.
Much like his time at FAU, Sargent assisted in both on-field and operational duties including the coordination of travel arrangements following his playing days with the Green and Blue. Along with serving as the director of FGCU's summer camps, Sargent also represented the Eagles at various showcases in the area for evaluating and recruiting purposes.
During his time at FGCU, Sargent also served as the assistant coach for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2013. There, he coached first base and managed the bullpen while also serving as the liaison between scouts and players.
Additionally, he spent time as the camp and hitting instructor at The Hitting Academy in his hometown of Clearwater from 2010-2011, and was tasked with the overall organization of the camp while also providing instructions to the players.
Sargent earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations to go along with a Minor in Business Management from FGCU in the spring of 2014.
