FGCU Athletics Degree Completion Program

In compliance with the NCAA Student-Athlete Core Guarantees, FGCU is committed to supporting former student-athletes who wish to return and complete their degree. This policy outlines the steps and requirements for student-athletes on full scholarship who have been away from the university for up to 10 years and seek to return to FGCU to finish their education.

Eligibility

To be eligible for readmission under this policy, student-athletes must:
  • Have completed two years of academic work at FGCU.
  • Have left FGCU in good academic standing and meeting all progress-toward-degree benchmarks.
  • Have been on athletics aid in a head count sport or received athletically related financial aid that resulted in the value of full tuition and fees, room and board and required course-related books while previously enrolled in a regular term at FGCU.
  • Have exhausted other available funding options (e.g., National Basketball Association Tuition Reimbursement)
  • Not have attended another school full time since their departure from FGCU.
  • Be within 10 years of their departure from FGCU.

Steps to Return to FGCU

Step 1: Readmission Step 2: Reacquaint Yourself
  • Once readmitted, contact Hartley Academic Resource Center (HARC) to connect with an Athletic Academic Coordinator
  • The HARC team will provide support, answer questions, and guide you through every step of your return process.
Step 3: Reapply for Financial Aid
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Foundation Scholarship Application.
  • Apply for the Return to the Nest Incentive Award, prioritizing students from the five-county region who have an outstanding balance from previous enrollment or are in their last semester.
  • In-state students should establish residency by completing the residency form and submitting it to orr@fgcu.edu.
Step 4: Re-Enroll
  • Meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss your course selection and confirm your academic plan.
  • Decide whether to re-enroll in your original major or explore a potentially faster path to graduation.

FGCU is committed to providing a supportive and streamlined process for returning student-athletes, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to achieve their academic goals.
