Dempsey becomes first FGCU baseball player to earn back-to-back All-America honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second straight year, Florida Gulf Coast's Evan Dempsey has earned the respect of the nation's collegiate baseball coaches. That is because this week Dempsey was named First Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings.

This is the first step towards Dempsey repeating as a Consensus All-American, something he achieved last year, becoming the first FGCU baseball player to do so.

Dempsey is one of three players from non-Power 4 conference to receive first team All-American honors and the only player receiving first team honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference.

This marks the fifth All-America honor Dempsey has earned in his career and he becomes the first FGCU player to receive back-to-back All-America accolades.

The Atlantic Sun Conference's Pitcher of the Year, Dempsey turned in another spectacular campaign in 2026. He also earned first-team all-conference honors as a pitcher and an outfielder. In addition to being a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, Dempsey was also named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award.

Dempsey started all 57 of his team's games, sporting a .333 batting average, 79 hits, including 18 doubles and 10 home runs, scored 57 runs and tallied 46 RBI. His OPS (.948), on-base percentage (.412) and slugging percentage (.512) ranked among his squad's best. He led his squad with 15 stolen bases on 17 attempts. On the mound, he was simply outstanding. In 15 starts, he posted a 7-2 record with a 3.15 ERA, a league-leading 126 strikeouts, while only walking 26. He netted a 1.06 WHIP and allowed opposing hitters to hit only .209.

First recognized in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams are selected by the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year committee, which is chaired by Brian Green of Wichita State University. The committee also includes Mitch Canham (Oregon State University), Chris Curry (University of Arkansas at Little Rock), Dean Ehehalt (Monmouth University), Mike Glavine (Northeastern University), Jeff Mercer (Indiana University), Butch Thompson (Auburn University), and Tom Walter (Wake Forest University).

Finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Team will be announced by Rawlings (@RawlingsSports) on X on Monday, June 15. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced by Rawlings on X on Wednesday, June 17, while the ABCA/Rawlings Pitchers and Position Players of the Year will be announced on Monday, June 22.

The ABCA All-America Team was first recognized in 1949 and now spans nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II, and III, the Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
