JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (14-21, 8-2 ASUN) took advantage of ten walks in a 8-3 win over Jacksonville (21-15, 6-4) on Friday night.
Sietske Drijvers extended her on-base streak to 14 games with a bases-clearing double as a part of a five-run third inning. Drijvers also walked twice and scored two runs.
Mackenzie Leiti went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, also as a part of the five-run third inning.
The Eagles opened with a four walk first inning.
Olivia Black drew the bases-loaded walk to score
Sietske Drijvers and put FGCU up 1-0. In the second,
Sophie Wylie singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Ally Thompson before
Mackenzie Leiti drove her in for the Eagles' second run of the game.
FGCU blew the game open in the third inning.
Tiffany Meek, Thompson and Wylie all drew two-out walks before Drijvers made it a 6-0 game with a double to the right-center field gap. Leiti proceeded to hit her own double to score Drijvers for a 7-0 lead.
K'Mari Williams added FGCU's eighth run on a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth inning to score
J'Lyn Guyden.
The Dolphins scored one in the bottom of the third and added two in the bottom of the seventh to bring the final score to 8-3.
Grace Taylor (6-6) took the win after throwing a complete game with a season-high six strikeouts.
FGCU returns to action with a Saturday doubleheader against the Dolphins beginning at 2 p.m.
