FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast (15-27, 9-7 ASUN) fell in the series opener, 7-1 to Jacksonville (28-15, 12-4) on Saturday.
Alison Carter had a banner day for JU, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Sarah Beth Brake and Lindsey Chadwick each had an RBI for the Dolphins, while Kate Linkletter scored three runs and Jaida Thomas touched home twice.
Brake singled up the middle to score Linkletter in the first inning and give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead. Carter drove in her first run of the day with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, but
Olivia Black turned two as the Dolphins' runner on second base was unable to retreat to the bag in time.
Carter added three more runs in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded double that snuck just past the outstretched glove of a diving
Ally Thompson at second base and rolled all the way to the wall in right-center field. She capped off her five-RBI day with a seventh inning double, and scored on a single from Lindsey Chadwick in the same inning.
The Eagles' only run of the day came from a
Nikki Gibson single in the bottom of the sixth that brought
Sophie Wylie in to score. Thompson had two of FGCU's five hits and a walk.
