TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (5-13) lost the final game of the Unconquered Invitational 9-1 to Rutgers (9-7).
The Scarlet Knights posted a nine-run fourth inning to secure the win. After a groundout to begin the inning, six straight Rutgers players reached base, and Mia Mitchell capped the inning with a grand slam to give Rutgers the 9-0 lead. The Scarlet Knights totaled five extra base hits in the inning, including four doubles along with the grand slam.
FGCU tallied four hits in the loss, two of which came in the fifth inning.
Olivia Black singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and
Tiffany Meek drove her in for the Eagles' only run of the game.
Presley Smith and
Nikki Gibson also recorded hits for FGCU.
Next, the Eagles continue their first road trip of 2026 with back-to-back midweek games against FIU and FAU, beginning against the Panthers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3.
