Blue takes the victory over Green in annual meet

FORT MYERS, Fla. - After a week of festivities, the Blue Team triumphed over the Green Team with a decisive 787–558 victory.

"Green and Blue week is truly special for our program", says Coach Dave Rollins. "It is a week of team building, learning, competition, and a whole lot of fun. It is great to be on the winning side of this meet for once! I am officially 1-9 in my time as an Eagle. All joking aside, to see the team set up and perform so well, was absolutely incredible. To be swimming and diving as well as we did today, being only five weeks into the season is inspiring. This season is going to be very special for our program and today was a glimpse of what is to come.  Looking forward to continuing our competitions over the next two weeks then really ramp things up as we prepare for November."

The meet featured some great racing in individual events and some great diving.
  • In the 200 Medley Relay, the Blue Team (Izzy Ackley, Leah Gentry-Tuney, Libby Russum, and Nadia Helm) set a new meet record with a time of 1:41.46, beating the previous time 3.67 seconds.
  • Jasmin Kroll (Green) took the victory in the 300 Free with a time of 2:58.08.
  • With a meet record time of 1:27.70, Ackley (Blue) was victorious in the 150 Back. Ackley beat the previous record (held by herself) by 1.77 seconds.
  • Aislyn Barnett was victorious in the 150 Breast with a time of 1:41.42.
  • For the Green Team, Olivia Vecchio placed first with a time of 1:31.83.
  • In the 50 Free, Russum took first for the Blue Team with a time of 23.64.
  • Emily McMahan of the Blue Team finished first in the 50 Kick with Fins with a time of 21.14.
  • With a time of 3:18.90, Barnett (Blue) was victorious in the 300 IM.
  • Ackley (Blue) set a new meet record in the 50 Back with a time of 24.58, beating the previous record, held by Macy Mullis, by 1.99.
  • Kroll (Green) placed first in the 150 Free with a time of 1:22.19.
  • Russum (Blue) placed first in the 50 Fly with a time of 25.06, which is a new meet record. Russum beat the previous record, held by Tori Czarnecka, by .10 seconds.
  • In the 50 Fly, Cassie Bauer (Green) set a new meet record with a time of 29.09, beating her own record by 0.23 seconds.
  • In the final event of the meet, the Blue Team (Ackley, Nadia Helm, Russum, and Gentry-Tuney) set a new meet record for the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:32.66. Their new record is 2.78 seconds faster than the previous record.

When the main event began, the Green Team was first to take the stage in the belly flop contest. Emerging from the locker room "into the jungle", they were covered in green paint as Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" blasted from the speakers. Once at the pool, Audrey Sambrook stepped onto the starting block and delivered a flawless belly flop into the water.

Next up was the Blue Team, led by Izzy Ackley and Emily McMahan. The pair placed a paddleboard in the pool, climbed aboard, and recreated the viral "aura farming" video as they made their way across. Once they reached the other side, most of the team gathered on the starting blocks and capped off presentation with a dramatic group belly flop to close out the meet.

Overall, it was a week of competition, team building, and fun.

FGCU now begins preparing for the FIU Classic on Oct. 3-4 in Miami, Florida.
