FORT MYERS, Fla. – Public nominations are now being accepted for candidates for the Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
The FGCU Department of Athletics announced the creation of the Hall of Fame as it celebrated its 20th anniversary. The inaugural class of the FGCU Athletics Hall of Fame was inducted in 2022. The Class of 2026 will be the fifth class of inductees. Tom Roberts, Faculty Athletics Representative and a long-time supporter of FGCU Athletics, will be the chair of the Athletics Hall of Fame Committee for his second year.
Each year, qualified candidates will be considered with regards to several key criteria, including their national recognition (with addition of post-FGCU career achievements), impact on the University and athletic accomplishments while at FGCU.
Despite its relative youth, the Department of Athletics has excelled at a national level during its existence and the individuals and teams bestowed with this high honor reflect the commitment and drive to make FGCU a success. Previous inductees include
Chris Sale,
Brooke (Youngquist) Sweat, and the
2012-13 "Dunk City" men's basketball team.
Selection for the honor of an individual student-athlete may not be made until at least ten (10) years following final FGCU athletic participation or eligibility to compete, whichever comes last. Consideration for induction now includes former student-athletes who completed their respective playing careers during the 2014-15 academic year. Selection for the honor of a team may not be made until at least twenty (20) years following the completion of the season being recognized.
Nominations of qualified individuals or teams for the Class of 2026 will be accepted until August 31, 2025. The 2025 FGCU Athletics Hall of Fame Class will be announced by the end of calendar year 2025 followed by a Hall of Fame induction ceremony in early 2026.
