Camryn Feast brought home two on a wild play in the top of the seventh inning to give Florida Gulf Coast University softball the late lead in a 5-3 win over Central Arkansas on Wednesday in the third round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.
Down by one heading into the top of the seventh, the Eagles needed some late inning magic to keep themselves in the winners' bracket.
Leading off in pinch hitting duties was
Kendall Wylie who laced a ball to right field for a single. Feast came on as the second pinch hitter of the inning. Facing two strikes, Feast hit a ball into right center that the right fielder just missed pushing it out to center field which was just vacated by the Central Arkansas center fielder covering the diving right fielder. Feast turned on the after burners and raced home to give FGCU the 4-3 lead.
Avery Viancos came up with a runner on first and tripled home
Olivia Black to give the Green and Blue the decisive 5-3 win.
Victoria Ash came on in relief again, notching another 3.1 innings without allowing an earned run. Ash has only allowed one earned run in her last 18 innings.
Black recorded her second three-hit game of the season and 15th multi-hit game. Viancos recorded two hits for her 16th multi-hit game.
With this win, FGCU will face gold division champions and No. 2 seed Eastern Kentucky in the quarterfinals of the ASUN tournament. If they lose, they will face Austin Peay in a winner-take-all game. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
