FGCU drops regular season finale

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Avery Viancos went a perfect 3-for-3, reaching base all four times she came up but Florida Gulf Coast University softball lost the regular season finale to North Florida 4-2 on Saturday.

The Eagles (27-28, 14-10 ASUN) scored first with an Alexis Cowles two-RBI single in the first inning.

Allison Sparkman was in the circle for FGCU and only allowed one hit through the first two innings before the Ospreys (42-13, 22-2 ASUN) broke through in the third to put up four runs.

The rest of the game was a pitching duel with Victoria Ash coming on in relief, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings.

With results around the conference, FGCU falls to third in the graphite division and will start their Atlantic Sun Conference tournament title defense in Oxford, Ala. on May 6 in the single elimination portion of the bracket.

The Green and Blue will be either a five or six seed depending on the RPI of the third place team in the Gold Division. Should FGCU win their first game they will move into the double elimination portion of the bracket on May 7.
