FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Leslie Flaherty records multi-hit games in the doubleheader on Saturday as Florida Gulf Coast University softball wins all four games they played at the Spring Break Classic beating Toledo 3-0 and Columbia 8-4.
The first game of the day came against Toledo. The third inning saw the Eagles put up three runs starting with a
Maddox Thomas single driving in
Avery Viancos.
After
Nikki Gibson walked the bases loaded, Flaherty came in to hit. The Rockets' catcher allowed a passed ball which
Tiffany Meek scored on. The catcher then threw the ball down to second to try to pick off the advancing runner but the ball got away from the fielder, allowing the third and final FGCU run to score.
Allison Sparkman pitched the complete game shutout, only allowing seven to reach base. Sparkman struck out six batters for the third time this week, tying her career high.
The Eagles bounced back for the second half of the double header against Columbia for the third game against the Lions this year, the prior two were run-rule victories.
FGCU would amass eight runs during the game with a three-run second, two-run third, two-run fourth and one-run fifth. Seven different Eagles recorded an RBI.
The Lions would score four runs to prevent another run-rule loss but FGCU would end up victorious against Columbia for the third time this season.
The Green and Blue conclude their non-conference schedule on Monday with a doubleheader against Lehigh that starts at 4 p.m.
