Four Eagles scored double figures in the CBI semifinal loss to Cleveland State on Tuesday, 72-65, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Jevin Muniz led FGCU with 16 points while
Michael Duax and
Tristen Guillouette each shot 75% from the field in their double-digit efforts.
Dallion Johnson surpassed 1,000 career points with a floater in the lane early in the game in his 10-point effort.
The Eagles (19-15, 13-5 ASUN) started the game by looking for points in the paint. All but one first-half field goal came in the paint with 24 of FGCU's 29 points coming inside the key.
The first field goal from outside the paint in the first half came from
Darren Williams with 2:20 left in the half with a beautiful step-back three-pointer.
The second half was tightly contested with the lead being exchanged 12 times. The largest lead of the second half was the starting and final margins of seven for Cleveland State.
A Johnson three-ball at 7:17 in the second half gave FGCU the lead but the Vikings (23-12, 14-6 Horizon) would tie it up just over a minute later and take back the lead that they would not relinquish for the 72-65 win.
