FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Camryn Feast and
Sophie Wylie blast home runs in the series finale against Jacksonville, completing the sweep 9-2.
This is the second consecutive season FGCU (16-18, 3-0 ASUN) have swept the Atlantic Sun Conference series opener.
The two home run performance from Feast and Wylie is the first game the Eagles have hit two home runs in a game since May 11, 2023 against Jacksonville State.
FGCU drew seven walks on the day, the most since February 22 against Columbia and were more than in any game during the 2024 season. The Eagles have drawn five or more walks four times this season.
Victoria Ash got the start for FGCU after earning a save in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday going five innings, only allowing six to reach base.
Allison Sparkman finished off the game with a two inning relief appearance.
The Eagles did it all against Jacksonville (13-13, 0-3 ASUN) to score runs. In the first inning,
Leslie Flaherty laid down a perfect bunt down the first base line allowing
Olivia Black to score.
Small ball was not the name of the game for FGCU as the next five runs were scored by way of the long ball as Feast blasted her second home run of the weekend, this one a three-run shot, and
Sophie Wylie followed it with a two run homer of her own.
The Green and Blue added three in the sixth after a throw down to second went awry, going all the way to the center field wall allowing
Maddox Thomas and
Avery Viancos to score. Black added the third run as the mere threat of her tagging on a ball to shallow right field caused the right fielder to throw the ball off line, allowing Black to score.
FGCU is one of three teams to have swept the opening weekend series with fellow Graphite Division member North Florida and Gold Division member Austin Peay.
Next up for the Green and Blue is a weekend series in DeLand against Stetson starting Saturday at 1 p.m.
