FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's
Ida Ferding received a postgraduate scholarship from the Atlantic Sun Conference. The league announced its annual accomplishments and honors during a Thursday ceremony at One Ocean Resort in Jacksonville. The awards were voted on and selected by various groups including the faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators, and conference office staff.
Ferding joined Caroline Kraemer (Queens) as a recipients of ASUN postgraduate scholarships.
"Ida continues to show why she is one of the top academic student-athletes we have had come out of this program," said FGCU head coach
Courtney Vernon. "This award is very well deserved."
Ferding has a perfect 4.0 GPA and registered 11 singles wins mainly at No. 5 with the highlight being her win on court No. 3 by a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 over a player from the University of Iowa. She also had non-conference wins over players from Air Force (6-1, 6-3) Belmont (6-3, 6-2), and Miami University (6-7,6-2, 1-0). Conference wins included Bellarmine, Queens, UNA, KSU, EKU, and UCA. She clinched the match for the Eagles against Bellarmine 7-6 (4), 6-4 on Feb. 21. In the ASUN Championships, Ferding delivered a 5-4, 4-6, 6-0 win to help the Eagles defeat Lipscomb and advance to the championship match.
