Anna Mortag joins the Eagles from Butler, fourth incoming transfer

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball and head coach Karl Smesko added Butler transfer Anna Mortag to the 2024-25 roster.

"Anna is a very versatile player," Smesko said. "She is an excellent shooter, and she can also attack the rim off the dribble. She will fit in very well with how we like to play."

Mortag becomes the fourth incoming transfer to commit to the Eagles, joining Skyar Gill (North/ Alabama/Kansas), Lauryn Taylor (Francis Marion) and Alahna Paige (Daemen University).

Mortag did not appear in any games this past season for the Bulldogs but played in 24 contests and made 21 starts her junior season in 2022-23. During her junior campaign, she ranked second overall in the BIG EAST in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.5 percent, making 30 of her 69 3-point field goal attempts.

The six-foot-one shooter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, averaged 20 minutes, 7.6 points, and 4.0 rebounds per game that season. She closed with 183 points, 96 rebounds, 20 assists and 16 steals. Mortag scored six points against No. 5 UConn and produced a season-high 17 points at Providence, going 3-for-7 from 3-point range. She would lead Butler in scoring six times and in rebounding six times.

Before Butler, Mortag started her collegiate career at IUPUI, spending her freshman and sophomore years with the Jaguars. She appeared in 14 games as a freshman, averaging 7.1 minutes, 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. She had six points in an upset win over No. 14 Iowa and provided 14 points in just 13 minutes against Oklahoma in the NCAA Tournament.

She reached double figures eight times that season, helping to guide IUPUI to a 24-5 record and a Horizon League Tournament Championship. As a sophomore there, Mortag played in 29 games, making one start, and averaged 6.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
