Schedule shift gives Eagles extra day off at ASUN Championship

DELAND, Fla. - A change in the Pool A schedule means that Florida Gulf Coast University will have an additional day off at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship as the Eagles will not take the field again until Saturday's semifinal round.

"With no further implications on advancement or seeding of the 2024 Baseball Championship, [Friday's] 10 a.m. game between Austin Peay and Kennesaw State and the 2:30 p.m. game between FGCU and Stetson will not be played," according to a statement from the conference office released late Thursday night. "The tournament continues Friday with Central Arkansas facing Jacksonville at 7 p.m."

Earlier Thursday, Stetson defeated Austin Peay 5-3 in a Pool A contest. While the pool was supposed to consist of each team playing a round robin schedule against the other three teams in the pool, the loss meant that Austin Peay could not advance to the championship bracket as the team was 0-2 with losses to both the Eagles and the Hatters. KSU had earlier defeated both Stetson and FGCU by a run apiece in earlier Pool A action, locking the Owls into the top seed. FGCU and Stetson were already guaranteed to play again Saturday in the semis as each would have the tiebreaker over APSU if the teams managed to be tied with the Governors.

FGCU will play in the second semifinal at Melching Field at 3 p.m. Saturday.
