Five players scored in double-figures for Florida Gulf Coast University as the Eagles fell 90-82 to Eastern Kentucky University Wednesday night in an Atlantic Sun Conference game from Richmond, Kentucky.
The game featured six ties and four lead changes. Late in the opening half, a sequence that featured two blocks by
Zach Anderson finished with a 3-pointer by
Isaiah Thompson to pull FGCU even with the hosts, 38-all. EKU would connect on a 3-pointer in the waning seconds to take a 41-38 lead into the locker room.
FGCU (10-15, 4-6 ASUN) twice tied the game early in the second half, but EKU (13-10, 9-1 ASUN) slowly built the lead up to 17, 78-61. Down but not out, the Eagles stormed back with an 11-0 run, capped by a
Dallion Johnson 3-pointer to make it 78-72.
The hole would be too deep for FGCU to overcome, however. While the Eagles got within five after a three-point play from
Rahmir Barno with 1:32 remaining, FGCU would be held scoreless for the rest of the contest and EKU would make three free-throws to seal the 90-82 win.
Thompson led the Eagles with 17 points, while Anderson finished with 16, 14 of which came in the first half. Johnson had 14, Barno netted 13, and
Keeshawn Kellman had 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Isaiah Cozart had 21 points and 13 rebounds for EKU.
The Eagles will be back home Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Alico Arena to take on Bellarmine University.
