Volleyball hits the road for midweek matchup at FIU

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball will take a mini-break from Atlantic Sun Conference play and head to in-state rival FIU on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match up in Miami.

There will be live stats and live stream on ESPN+ available for the match. 

This will be FGCU's 19th match up against the Panthers (6-21) and the Eagles have dominated the series 13-5. The Green & Blue delivered a thrilling 3-2 victory at home last season Oct. 17.

FGCU is coming off a perfect 2-0 week on the road after delivering 3-1 victories at West Georgia last Friday and Queens (N.C.) Sunday. Shelby Kent's performance resulted in her being named this week's ASUN Player of the Week. Kent registered an impressive double-double with 22 kills off 40 swings (.425), four block assists and 22 digs to help the Green & Blue push its winning streak to six.

Versus the Royals she also had  another double-double of 19 kills and 17 digs, combined with two block assists.

The Green & Blue continue to boast of players in the national ranks, as Skylar English is fifth in service aces with 91 and Kent sits in 14th spot in total kills with 391. As a team the Eagles are sixth in the country in aces per set with 2.12 and seventh in total aces with193.

FIU is coming off a 3-1 defeat at Jacksonville Saturday.

Following Wednesday's match, the Eagles will be back home to face Bellarmine this Saturday at 6 p.m. in Alico Arena.
