Eagles deliver 4-0 shutout victory over New College of Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. – First Team All-Conference selection Erika Zschuppe scored twice Saturday as Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer added a 4-0 victory over New College of Florida to its 2024 resume.

"It's important to try and stay in rhythm," head coach Jim Blankenship said. "We looked at this as an opportunity to play and give everybody a chance. It's a good result anytime you get a chance to play and learn from it."

The Eagles (11-5-2, 9-1-1 ASUN) added the contest due to earning a two-week bye into the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed, regular season champs and championship hosts.

FGCU will host the winner of the No. 4 North Florida/No. 5 EKU quarterfinal match on Thursday, Nov. 7 in the semifinal round at Pickering Field. The quarterfinal match in which the Eagles await kicks off Sunday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida. FGCU defeated North Florida 2-0 but suffered a 2-1 loss at EKU for the Green and Blue's only conference loss this season. For tickets to the ASUN Championship, visit HERE

FGCU started nine of its normal 11 starters Saturday against New College, and 18 Eagles saw playing time. Clara Karlsson got the first starting nod of her career in goal. She played 75 minutes and recorded one save in a combined shutout alongside Amaya Assal.

Zschuppe moved into double digits in total goals this season, scoring in the 10th and 59th minute for her 11th of the year. Katelyn Kauffman buried a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, and Lindsey Saad provided the fourth Eagles' goal of the day in the 85th minute.

Offensively, 16 different Eagles recorded at least one shot. As a team, FGCU fired 36 shots at the NCF goalkeeper, the fourth most in program history in a tuneup match for the upcoming ASUN Tournament.
