Eagles welcome diving coach Joe Gucwa and assistant swim coach Ethan Spencer

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University swimming and diving team added diving coach Joe Gucwa and assistant swim coach Ethan Spencer for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

"Excited to bring Joe and Ethan to the staff this year," head coach Dave Rollins said. "Joe's energy and passion for diving are greatly welcome, and I'm excited to see him thrive with our program. Thanks to the new rules with coaching limits, we are able to bring Ethan on staff and help him get his career started and help him grow as a coach. Both of these gentlemen bring great energy and a new outlook to our program, and we are excited to welcome them to The Nest."

Spencer was a four-year collegiate swimmer at DePauw University. Spencer's collegiate highlights include a 2019 gold medal in 100-yard IM at the Indiana Division III Invitational. At 2:03.27, he placed third in the 200-yard individual medley during the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology vs. DePauw Duel. FGCU will be Spencer's first stop in his coaching career.

Gucwa arrives in the City of Palms from South Dakota University. He spent one season with the Coyotes as the head diving coach. In 2022, Gucwa directed Stella Fairbanks to the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships, where she competed in the three-meter event for the second straight season. Fairbanks earned All-Summit League honors in both diving events and finished the season with nine gold medals.

Prior to USD, Gucwa was the head diving coach at Saginaw Valley State University. The Cardinals had a diver appear at the NCAA Division II National Championships in each year under Gucwa's guidance.

Collegiately, Gucwa was a member of the Grand Valley State University swimming and diving team, where he was an eight-time All-American for the Lakers from 2014-18.
