FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout victory Sunday over in-state foe South Florida at Pickering Field.

Jim Blankenship said. "Thought the ladies' team defense was fantastic, and Olivia was that good. Proud of their effort, and they continue to get better each game."
The Eagles (2-1) made the most of their opportunities as South Florida outpaced FGCU in shots 22-6. The Bulls (2-2) fired 12 shots on goal, while the Green & Blue managed an ever-so-important two. Sunday's victory over the Bulls marked just the second ever in program history.
Freshman goalkeeper
Olivia Molina kept USF off the board by recording 12 saves in back-to-back clean-sheet efforts.
Sophomore
Erika Zschuppe changed the course of the match in the 25th minute. Zschuppe stole a defensive cross, faked left and finished with a scoring strike for her second goal of the season.
The Eagles clung to a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
FGCU stunned the Bulls once again in the 57th minute. Sophomore
Kendal Gargiula redirected a deep free kick opportunity to make it 2-0 Eagles. Graduate student
Grace Paradis and Zschuppe were awarded assists on the play.
USF fired three shots in the final 10 minutes of the match. Molina snatched her 12th save of the day in the 89th minute.
Molina set the tone early between the pipes Sunday by making a diving save in the 15th minute. Molina has not surrendered a goal in her last 258 minutes of play.
FGCU will hit the road Thursday for the first time this season to face High Point University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
