FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball and head coach
Matt Botsford unveiled the 2023 schedule Friday.
"We have put together another very challenging schedule this year, and I am looking forward to testing ourselves against some of the nation's best," Botsford said. "Of course, the nonconference segment is highlighted with the opportunity to play the reigning national champion on their home court, but there are multiple matches that will test us and help prepare us to meet our ultimate goals for the season. I'm also very excited about the caliber of teams we have joining us for our home events, which will be great for our fans."
The Eagles have four Power Five opportunities, 15 home matches and are the designated host of the 2023 ASUN Tournament. Three of the Power Five programs will be making a visit to Alico Arena.
FGCU will compete in three invitationals to begin the campaign, hosting the Homewood Suites FGCU Invitational (Aug. 25-27) and the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic (Sept. 15-16).
The Eagles welcome Arizona State University, University of Mississippi and St. John's University for the opening weekend of play. FGCU opens with Arizona State at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25. The Eagles will battle Ole Miss on Saturday and close with St. John's on Sunday.
The Green & Blue heads north to Tampa to take on University of South Florida Sept. 1-2. FGCU will also face Mercer University and Idaho State University in the Bay.
Botsford's squad will then head to the Lone Star State to take on 2022 NCAA Champion University of Texas, Rice University and Houston Christian University before soaring back home for the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic. Rice finished in the Top 25 a season ago and made an appearance in the NCAA Second Round.
Florida Atlantic University, University of Maryland and Le Moyne College come to Alico Arena Sept. 15-16. The Green & Blue open the classic with FAU Friday. FGCU finishes its fourth and final invitation with a match versus Le Moyne College and Maryland on Saturday.
The Eagles open up ASUN Conference action versus Jacksonville on Sept. 22 at Alico Arena. FGCU will also host University of North Florida, Stetson University, University of Central Arkansas, Austin Peay State University, Lipscomb University, Kennesaw State University and Queens University of Charlotte in 2023.
FGCU will enjoy a five-match home span in October, hosting four ASUN opponents and in-state foe Florida International University. (Oct. 17).
The Green & Blue close out the regular season on the road at North Florida and Jacksonville before hosting the ASUN Tournament beginning on Nov. 16.
FGCU returns eight players from its 2022 ASUN Tournament Championship season and its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Eagles are one of only 15 teams nationally with 120 or more wins in the past five seasons.
