Keeshawn Kellman had a career-best 23 points as Florida Gulf Coast University battled but ultimately fell to the University of Cincinnati 99-62 Sunday afternoon in men's basketball action from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Kellman's 23 points were a game-high in the contest, as were his five offensive rebounds. The senior transfer set a new career-best in field goals made with 11 in 28 minutes of action.
The Eagles (2-7) were within one just over five minutes into the contest, but a 14-0 run would give the Bearcats (7-0) a 23-8 lead and the home side would not lead by fewer than 10 points the rest of the way. UC led 49-26 after the opening 20 minutes.
For the first 12:30 of the second half, the Eagles played UC evenly, actually out-scoring the hosts 31-30 over that period. However, with the Eagles short-handed due to injuries and an illness running through much of the roster, Cincinnati's depth would allow it to build the lead back up over the last seven minutes of the game.
Chase Johnson scored all 10 of his points in the second half.
Zach Anderson,
Rahmir Barno, and
Dallion Johnson each had eight points for FGCU. The Eagles turned it over one fewer time than UC (10-9), with Anderson and Barno each recording a pair of steals for the Green and Blue.
FGCU will back home at Alico Arena to take on New College of Florida this Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
