Slate released for 2023-24 men's basketball season

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Head coach Pat Chambers has released the schedule for the Florida Gulf Coast University men's basketball team for 2023-24.

"We are looking forward to the challenge of our schedule for this season," Chambers said. "We've got a difficult non-conference schedule to get us prepared for conference play. We're going to have a lot of chances to grow, learn and connect as we embark on our journey to become the best team we can be by the end of the season."

A busy November will start for the Eagles in Bloomington, Indiana., as FGCU travels to face Indiana University Nov. 7. The second all-time meeting between the two schools will be the season tip-off for both teams. Three days later, the Eagles open Alico Arena for the season when they play host to Ave Maria Nov. 10. The schedule continues with another game against a Power Five school Nov. 13 as the Eagles travel to face the University of Pittsburgh.

The Eagles will start their Thanksgiving week with a trip to the Carribean Sea for the 2023 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Nov. 17-20. FGCU will take on Missouri State to open the tournament Nov. 17 at 9:30 p.m. The remaining teams in the event include Kent State, Hampton, San Jose State, Abilene Christian, Fordham and Norfolk State. Play will continue with winner's bracket and loser's bracket games Nov. 18. After an off day Nov. 19, placement games will take place Nov. 20.

"Paradise Jam will be an incredible litmus test on our Identity, our foundation and our mental conditioning," an excited Chambers said. "We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete versus some great teams and coaches."

FGCU returns to the mainland to face UNC Wilmington Nov. 25 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. In the final November game, the Eagles will face the South Florida rival Florida International University in Miami Nov. 29. The Eagles won the last meeting between the two schools in Alico Dec. 4, 2022, 74-65.

A seven-game December schedule begins with the Eagles heading to Ohio to face the University of Cincinnati Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. The Eagles will come back home two days later for a game against New College of Florida Dec. 5. A three-game road trip awaits the Eagles beginning Dec. 9 as FGCU takes on Minnesota on the Big Ten Network at noon EST. A flight to the Peach State awaits FGCU Dec. 16 and Dec. 19 as the Eagles face Mercer in Macon, Georgia, and Georgia Southern in Statesboro. The 2023 portion of the schedule ends with a pair of home games Florida Memorial visits Alico Dec. 22, followed by a Dec. 30 showdown with South Florida rival Florida Atlantic.

As January tips off, Atlantic Sun Conference play tips off as well. The Eagles will have back-to-back games in Alico Arena to start the conference slate as upstate rivals Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida visit Jan. 4 and 6. A two-game road trip to face Queens University of Charlotte and Kennesaw State University is sandwiched between the continuation of the home schedule. FGCU will host Stetson University Jan. 20, then will host Lipscomb University and Austin Peay State University Jan. 25 and 27.

The start of February sees the Eagles begin a three-game road swing in ASUN play to the University of Central Arkansas, the University of North Alabama and Eastern Kentucky Feb. 1, 3 and 7 respectively. A Feb. 10 tilt against Bellarmine University in Alico comes before a Feb. showdown at Stetson. KSU and Queens will return the early season road trip with a visit to Alico Feb. 22 and 24 to close out the home portion of the regular season schedule. The Eagles will wrap up ASUN regular season play at UNF and Jacksonville Feb. 28 and March 1.

The ASUN Championship will commence at campus sites throughout the league Mar. 4-10. The top 10 teams in the league will qualify for the league's tournament.
