Men's Tennis Keeps Rolling with Win at Stetson

DELAND, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team remained perfect in the ASUN on Friday as the Eagles collected a 4-3 win over Stetson. The Green and Blue improve to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in the ASUN while the Hatters fall to 7-7 and 1-1 in conference play.

"So that right there is two in a row!" said head coach CJ Weber. "Not just two in a row but two dramatic wins in a row! Both teams fought their guts until the end. Stetson always battles really well and I'm really proud of my guys for being the tougher team today. I was especially proud of how we conducted ourselves in doubles and hats off to Marche for clinching the match for us after being a set down. We need to continue to build and we are looking forward to UNF on Sunday."

The Eagles jumped out to the early lead as they clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Junior Max Damm (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephen's Episcopal School) and redshirt-sophomore Magnus Johnson (Naples, Fla./Homeschool/UCF) picked up their eighth win of the season while redshirt-sophomores Marcelo Sepulveda (Monterrey, Mexico/Penn Foster/Alabama) and Guglielmo Stefanacci (Prato, Italy/International School of Florence) played for the

It looked like it might be an easy victory for the Eagles as redshirt-sophomore Randy Wilson (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Miami Palmetto/Louisville) and Johnson each won in straight sets to give FGCU a 3-0 lead. However, the Hatters proceeded to win on courts four and six to get back within one at 3-2.

Sepulveda made sure to halt the Hatter comeback right there as he clinched the match with a victory on court two. After dropping the first set, he came back to win the second set, 6-4, before taking the third set, 6-2, to win his fifth-straight match.
