Men’s Soccer Drops Road Match at UCF

Alessandro Campoy tallies four goals to lead Knights past Eagles.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Alessandro Campoy scored four goals, highlighted by a first half hat trick, to lead UCF past the FGCU men's soccer team 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The Knights improve to 2-3-0 on the year, while FGCU falls to 0-3-1 overall.

"This was a very humbling day for our program - both coaches and players. We all have to take responsibility for our preparation and execution. UCF had the right approach and played at a different level and at a higher standard than we did today," said head coach Jesse Cormier. "We need to recalibrate and look at what we're doing; we have to be prepared to make changes and get back to doing what we're good at. We have to take our medicine and learn from our failures in preparation for FAU and, beyond that, conference play. These are valuable lessons for us and learning from them is how we will be a really good team and reach our potential."

The Eagles received goals from O'Vonte Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/Northview Heights) and Timon Zech (Starnberg, Germany/Louisiana State Eunice College). Mullings scored in the 31st minute to cut an early deficit for the Green and Blue to 2-1. Mullings' marker was his 22nd overall moving him two shy of surpassing Shak Adams (23, 2016-19) for the second-most career goals in program history. The goal also registered his 50th career point putting him just 13 shy of passing Adams there as well.

Zech's goal came in the 77th minute marking his first of the season and his first as an Eagle.

Campoy opened the scoring early with his first of the day coming in the 5th minute of play. Just over 22 minutes later, he scored his second to put UCF up 2-0. He recorded his hat trick in the 43rd minute and then posted his fourth goal in the 61st minute.

After Mullings' goal, Lucca Dourado scored his first of two in the match to put UCF back up 3-1 in the 36th minute. The Knights took a 4-1 lead into the intermission. Dourado opened the second half with his second goal which came in the 55th minute.

UCF had an 18-to-7 advantage in shots with 13 being on target. The Knights also held a 9-to-8 edge in corner kicks.

FGCU keeper Gustavo Vasconcelos (Recife, Brazil/Colegio GGE) returned in goal for the first match since the opener against FIU. He was credited with seven saves, though, did allow all six goals in just under 67 minutes of work. Wyatt Kistner (Midlothian, Va./Cosby HS) lifted him in the 67th minute but did not have to make a save in the balance of the contest.

Matt Douglass earned the win for the Knights without any saves and allowing the two goals.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 with a road trip to FAU. Opening kickoff at FAU Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 PM.
