Nick Huenefeld, Nick Reeves Named Eagles of the Quarter

Duo selected for outstanding effort and hard work benefiting FGCU athletics.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Associate Director of Communications Nicholas Huenefeld and Assistant Director of Facilities & Operations Nick Reeves have been named the FGCU Athletics Eagles of the Quarter as announced by Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh today.

The duo have each taken on additional assignments over the last few months in their respective areas and have showcased outstanding effort to benefit the department overall and the programs they work directly with. Huenefeld stepped into an interim role as the main media contact for baseball over the last several months, while Reeves has helped in all areas of Facilities and Operations. Both Huenefeld and Reeves accepted the additional assignments during staff transition and helped ensure that daily operations stayed continuous, while providing continued quality professional service.

"Both Nicks' daily sacrifices, efforts and contributions befit what the Eagles of the Quarter honor represents. In particular, they have gone above and beyond amidst these continued surreal pandemic times that resulted in witnessing for the first time all 15 of our teams conducting their championship segments in the spring."

Reeves first joined the department in a full-time role as Coordinator of Facilities & Operations in August 2016. He was then named assistant director in August 2017. He oversees the maintenance of FGCU's athletics facilities while assisting in game day operations of all sports. He worked with the department as an undergraduate before graduating with a bachelor's in sport management in spring 2016. He is continuing his education by pursuing an MBA at FGCU and has been a member of the University's Staff Advisory Council (SAC).

Huenefeld first joined the department in September 2017 as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications and was promoted to his current associate director position two years later. He has also served twice as the interim director for the FGCU athletics communications department. He is the main media contact for the nationally-ranked women's basketball, indoor volleyball and the beach volleyball programs. A 2010 graduate of Bowling Green State University, he has also worked at Owens (OH) Community College and the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, as well as at the Toledo Blade where he was a copy editor.

The Eagles of the Quarter commenced in January 2021 as a way to honor FGCU Athletics staff members who go above and beyond in serving Eagle student-athletes and making the department successful.  Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration Mike Estes and Assistant Athletics Director for Health Performance Nicole Neal were chosen as the inaugural honorees. In May, Assistant Director of Marketing and Promotions Shane Pellegrine and Director of Video Production Monica Weber were selected.
