Softball Falls in Series Finale to USF

TAMPA, Fla. – The FGCU softball team (21-15) was limited to two hits in the 4-0 loss to USF (21-11) Sunday afternoon at the USF Softball Stadium.

"We didn't have an answer for [Georgina Corrick] all weekend," said head coach David Deiros. "It's time to get back to work and get ready for #5 Florida Wednesday night."

USF posted its first run in the bottom of the first, followed by a three-run third. FGCU's pair of hits came off the bats of Emily Estroff and Farley Callaghan. Estroff (Coconut Creek, Fla./Coral Springs Charter/Villanova) laced a one-out single to left in the first, while Callaghan (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) knocked a base hit through the right side in the fifth.

In the circle for the Bulls, Corrick tossed her second complete game in the series, fanning 15 batters with two walks. At the plate, USF totaled nine hits as Bethaney Keen and AnaMarie Bruni each went 2-for-3.

Marissa Mesiemore (Bushnell, Fla./South Sumter HS) and Sarah Lawton (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross HS/FSW) each pitched three innings apiece as Mesiemore was tagged with the loss, moving her record to 11-6.
