Bell Breaks Double-Double Record, No. 25 Women's Basketball Defeats High Point

13 different players score as Eagles close out West Palm Beach Classic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- Kierstan Bell scored a game-high 30 points as the No. 25 FGCU women's basketball team (11-1) used a 19-2 game-opening run to help secure an 86-50 win over High Point University (3-8) inside Elisabeth W. Erling Gymnasium on the campus of Palm Beach State College in the finale of the West Palm Beach Classic on Tuesday.

Bell (Alliance, Ohio/Canton McKinley HS/Ohio State) finished with 30 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks on 11-for-18 shooting, which included a 4-for-9 finish from 3-point range and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. In doing so, she achieved her 21st career double-double in just her 38th career game in the Green and Blue, which breaks a tie with Sarah Hansen for the most in program history.

Tishara Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS/Western Nebraska CC) added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal. She helped the Eagles finish 17-for-23 from the foul line behind a 7-for-10 performance individually. Emma List added a season-high 10 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Maddie Antenucci (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill HS) also matched her season-high with eight points off the bench in the second half on 3-for-5 shooting. In total, 13 different players scored while the other two had a rebound and an assist apiece.

"It was a great team win today," FGCU head coach Karl Smesko said. "We got off to a great start, shared the ball early and worked for good looks. This was also one of our best defensive efforts of the season and a good way to go into the break."

The Eagles scored 19 of the game's first 21 points, which spanned 6:14 and included eight points, two rebounds, one block and a steal from Bell. High Point closed the quarter on a 7-3 run and were within 12 with 8:05 left in the half but List (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon Campus/Albany) had four points over the next few minutes before Bell exploded for eight points in the final minute and a half to give the Green and Blue a 45-22 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Bell (10) and Morehouse (7) combined for 17 of FGCU's 24 points as they stretched the lead to 32. The quarter also featured an old-fashioned three-point play from 3-point specialist Kendall Spray (Mt. Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central HS/UT Martin/Clemson) while Bell hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap her 30-point performance as she sat the entire fourth quarter with the game in hand.

Six different players then scored in the final quarter, led by Antenucci's eight. Milan Schimmel (Mission, Ore./Nixyaawii Community School/Hutchinson CC/Eastern Florida State CC/Cincinnati) also dished out three assists and added a pair of rebounds.

FGCU, which re-entered the top 25 in the latest Coaches Poll during Tuesday's game, will be back in action on Dec. 29 with a 2 p.m. matchup at Fordham University.

Notes
The game featured the first head-to-head matchup of Smesko and his former point guard and associate head coach Chelsea Banbury, who is in her third season as head coach at High Point. In fact, she has several other former Eagles on her staff, including assistant coaches Jaime Gluesing, Brittany Brown and Jessica Cattani, as well as director of operations Nasrin Ulel.
