DELAND, Fla. ---
Kierstan Bell and
Tishara Morehouse combined for 47 points to lead the No. 29 FGCU women's basketball team (13-2, 6-0 ASUN) to an 84-62 win over Stetson (4-7, 2-4) on the road inside the Edmunds Center Saturday afternoon.
Â
With the victory, FGCU has not only won 12 straight overall but extended its road winning streak to 17 dating back to last year, which is the second-longest in the nation behind South Carolina's 20-game stretch. They've also won 24 straight on the road against ASUN competition and improved to 29-4 all-time against Stetson, which includes nine straight wins.
Â
"It was good to pick up two wins this trip," FGCU head coach
Karl Smesko said. "We have a lot to work on, but we are making progress."
Â
Just 12 games into her career in the Green and Blue,
Bell (Alliance, Ohio/Canton McKinley HS/Ohio State) produced her ninth double-double behind a 25-point, 11-rebound performance. In doing so, she broke the program's Division I era single-season record for most double-doubles previously held jointly by Sarah Hansen and Whitney Knight.
Â
The sophomore forward finished 10-for-15 from the field on Saturday and averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, two blocks, 1.5 assists and one steal over two games this weekend against Stetson. In six conference games, she has scored at least 24 points on four occasions. Overall, she has nine games with at least 20 points this year, and six of her double-doubles have come with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS/Western Nebraska CC), meanwhile, opened Saturday's game with 14 first-quarter points before finishing with 22 points while adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Just as important, she has turned the ball over just four times over the past five games.
Â
Aaliyah Stanley (Boynton Beach, Fla./Oxbridge Academy/Eastern Michigan) finished third on the team in scoring with 12 over 16 minutes off the bench. It was her fifth game with double-digits in six conference games as she finished 4-for-8 from the field.
Tyra Cox (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep/William & Mary) added 10 points, a game-high four steals and three assists before fouling out. She did her damage in just 20 minutes while notching her sixth double-digit performance this year.
Â
Emma List (9) and
Seneca Hackley (6) also combined for 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Â
As a team, FGCU finished 32-for-66 (.485) from the field, which is tied for the squad's third-best shooting percentage in a game this season. That total included a 14-for-39 (.359) performance from long distance, which was the sixth-consecutive game in which the Eagles made at least 10 3-pointers, and they have recorded 13 such performances overall this year in 15 games. The Green and Blue also turned the ball over just eight times, which was the second-lowest total for the team this year.
