NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The FGCU women's soccer team (6-3-1) finished its two-match road ASUN road swing with a 1-1 double overtime draw against Lipscomb (7-4-1) Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Of the teams that have played two conference games, FGCU and Lipscomb are the only programs that have yet to drop a contest.
"I'm really proud of our players and how hard they fought today," said head coach
Jim Blankenship. "Coming into this weekend, we talked a lot about how important it would be to get some points on the road, especially since we were playing the top two teams from last year (Lipscomb and North Alabama). Today's match felt like a final. There was a lot of pressure on both teams. To come away from that without a loss says a lot about us and the direction we are moving in."
It was senior
Marjorie Boilesen who struck first in the highly-anticipated matchup, knocking in a ball from sophomore
Ashlee Brentlinger to put the visitors up 1-0 in the 16th minute of the match. The goal was
Boilesen's (Sao Paulo, Brazil/West Florida) fifth of the season. The Bisons eventually responded in the 39th minute with a shot that evened things up at 1-1.
Heading into the break, the Eagles held a 5-3 edge in shots on-frame.
Following the intermission, FGCU continued to test Lipscomb's keeper.
Boilesen launched back-to-back on-frame attempts in the opening minutes of the second stanza. Freshman
Louise Lillback and senior
Silvana Gordon (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) added attempts of their own, but came up empty. The Bisons' goalie came up with five stops while senior
Melissa Weck only had to make two. At the end of regulation, the teams were still knotted up at 1-1, forcing the match into overtime.
FGCU tallied two shots through the overtime periods, courtesy of
Brentlinger (Middletown, DE/Padua Academy) and
Lillback (Stockholm, Sweden/Tibble Gymnasium).
Weck (Yorba Linda, CA/Esperanza HS) made one additional save to keep Lipscomb off the board en route to matching her season-high with six saves as the game came to a close. The tie is the Eagles' first of the season.
Over the course of 110 minutes, the Eagles held the advantage in shots on goal (11-7) and shots (19-18). In addition, the match was highlighted by freshman
Amanda Crisalli (High Springs, FL/Santa Fe HS) making her first career start.

COACH JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach Jim Blankenship, who was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the ASUN Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just 12 seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to 11 double-digit win seasons, culminating with ASUN Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN Tournament titles as they became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles went on to win the 2014 ASUN Tournament and hosted the first NCAA Championship event on campus. The Eagles earned their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance with the 2015 ASUN Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA game at USF in 2015 while finishing 24th in the nation. In 2016, the Eagles made it three-consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament with a third-straight ASUN Tournament title. A year later, the Eagles became the first ASUN women's soccer program to make four-straight NCAA Tournaments with another tournament title in 2017. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a 162-58-24 (.713) overall record through the first 12 seasons of the program's existence, including a 77-14-15 (.798) mark in the ASUN. Blankenship's impressive career record of 402-128-35 (.742) over 26 seasons has come while leading FGCU, the University of Miami, Lynn University and St. Thomas University.
