@FGCU_WTen Takes on Iowa Sunday Morning

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team (4-5, 0-1 ASUN) returns to action hosting Big 10 foe Iowa starting at 11 a.m. Sunday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

Last Time Out
The Eagles fell to Furman this past Wednesday, 6-1. In the match, FGCU collected a win in doubles as Sara Kelly (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual) and Patricia Villar (Logrono, Spain/Bachillerato Santa Maria/Louisiana Monroe) claimed a 6-3 victory. In singles action, Laura Falceto-Font (Zaragoza, Spain/El Pilar Maristas Zaragoza) came away with the Green and Blue's lone point, taking court No. 6, 7-5, 6-2.

ITA Top-50 Ranking
In the ITA/Oracle Women's Poll released on Feb. 26, the Eagles came in ranked at No. 50. It marked the first time in program history the Green and Blue received a spot inside the top-50. 

Scouting the Hawkeyes
Iowa enters Sunday's matinee with an overall 7-4 record, going 0-1 so far in the Big 10 (lost 4-3 to Penn State). In doubles competition, the pairing of Elise Van Heuvelen and Adorabol Huckleby are 7-3 overall, playing mostly at the No. 2 spot. Meanwhile, in singles play, Van Heuvelen along with Sophie Clark have each collected eight wins apiece, both marks are a team-high.

This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and the Hawkeyes.

HEAD COACH COURTNEY VERNON
FGCU's women's tennis team is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year Courtney Vernon, who led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN regular-season crowns in her fifth season in 2018. She has mentored her student-athletes into earning 56 ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic honors, including 2014, 2016 and 2017 ASUN Freshman of the Year as well as the 2016 and 2017 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the 2018 Player of the Year. Vernon has led the Green and Blue to a 65-47 overall record (.592) and 27-6 conference record (.827) in her six years at FGCU.
