FORT MYERS, Fla. – Closing out the fall schedule at a familiar locale, the FGCU men's golf team will host the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic at the Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Fla., on Sunday, Nov. 3 and Monday, Nov. 4. Action on the par 72 (7,393 yards) course will begin Sunday at 8 AM with a shotgun start before concluding on Monday with a 7:30 AM start.
 
Aside from the host Eagles, the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic features Stetson, Lafayette, Incarnate Word, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Saint Joseph's, Ave Maria, Prairie View A&M, and Bethune-Cookman. The tournament will feature 36 holes on Sunday and the final 18 on Monday with live scoring through www.GolfStat.com.

FGCU is coming off a 15^th place finish earlier this week at the Intercollegiate at Innisbrook in Tampa. The Eagles started the tournament strong as they were tied for eighth following the first round, including a two-stroke advantage over No. 16 UCF, before finishing six strokes behind William & Mary and Temple. Individually, senior Doug Smith (Windermere, Fla.) and junior J.T. Barker (Bethlehem, Fla.) tied for 48^th overall with three-day scores of 223.
 
Smith posted an opening round score of 69 for his second consecutive round going two-under par. Barker was consistent over the three rounds at Innisbrook shooting 73-76-74.
 
Along with Smith and Barker, junior Tyler Carlson (Bradenton, Fla.) has seen action in all three tournaments this fall. Smith leads the trio with a scoring average of 73.11 followed closely by Carlson's 73.22 average. Barker's 73.89 average is just behind to round out the top scoring leaders for FGCU.
 
Sophomore Luke Farmer (Richmond, Va.) and junior Mark Iwinski, Jr. (Fort Myers, Fla.), will round out the group for the Eagles while senior Brent Frederickson (Staten Island, N.Y.), sophomore Chase Bigham (Naples, Fla.), and freshman Josh Mesmer (Fort Myers, Fla.) will all compete as individuals over the two-day event.

The Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic will close out the fall campaign as the Eagles break until the spring portion of the schedule starts up on March 2-3 at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club.

Doug Smith – Sr. – 6-0 – Windermere, Fla.

Has played in three tournaments during the 2019-20 campaign with a 73.11 stroke average through nine rounds … His opening round 69 at the Intercollegiate at Innisbrook marked his second consecutive round in the 60's … Three of his nine rounds played have come under par ... Shot a low round score of 69 in the final 18 of the J.T. Poston Invitational ... Played in five tournaments in 2018-19 with a 77.21 stroke average over 14 rounds … Was one of only three players during his sophomore campaign to play in all 11 tournaments and tied with for the team lead with 29 rounds played … In 2016-17 as a freshman, was a member of the ASUN All-Freshman Team after finishing the year with a 75.05 stroke average to rank third among league rookies.

Tyler Carlson – Jr. – 6-1 – Bradenton, Fla.

Through nine rounds in the 2019-20 fall schedule, ranks second for FGCU with a 73.22 scoring average among players with six rounds or more ... Leads the team in rounds under par with four … Placed 34th overall at the J.T. Poston Invitational with his best three-round score of 211 highlighted by a 69 in the third round ... Led FGCU at the Golfweek Program Championship where he finished 27th overall including a third-round score of 69 ... Finished the Golfweek Program Championship with 10 birdies overall ... This will be his third career tournament for the Eagles … Transferred to FGCU from Lynn University (2017-19) … Did not play in 2018-19 at Lynn … Took part in three tournaments as a freshman in 2017-18 ending the year with a 75 stroke average over nine rounds played.

J.T. Barker – Jr. – 5-10 – Bethlehem, Pa.

Playing in his fourth tournament of the 2019-20 campaign with a 73.89 stroke average through nine rounds ... Finished tied for 48th individually at the Intercollegiate at Innsibrook for his best overall place this season … Had a strong third round at the J.T. Poston Invitational shooting 69 for his best round to date ... Played in three tournaments last season as a sophomore with an average score of 77.75 over 8.0 rounds … Transferred to FGCU from Northampton Community College prior to the 2017 fall semester.

Luke Farmer - So. – 5-9 – Richmond, Va.

Playing in his third tournament of the fall with a 78.17 scoring average … Shot a season-low 74 in the first round of the Intercollegiate at Innisbrook … Played in the Golfweek Program Championship to start the fall ... Played in one tournament last season as a freshman … A local product having played for Estero during his prep career … Won the District 2A-21 title as a senior … In 2016 as a junior, named a News Press Boys Golfer of the Year finalist after taking third in the state tournament.

Mark Iwinski, Jr. - Jr. – 5-9 – Fort Myers, Fla.

Making his second appearance of the season … Saw action at the J.T. Poston Invitational … Played in just one tournament last year as a sophomore in 2018-19 ... Competed as an individual in two tournaments during his freshman campaign … His father, Mark, Sr., is a PGA Professional and the general manager at Old Corkscrew.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 79 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 12+ seasons at the Division-I level. Additionally, in just eight-plus seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 36 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Seven FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including both men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's basketball again in 2018-19. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.35 GPA in the classroom in spring 2018 and have outpaced their institution's undergraduate student body GPA each of the past twenty semesters.
