JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
Lisa Zderadicka became just the fourth player in program history to record double-digit assists against an ASUN opponent as the FGCU women's basketball team (12-4, 3-0 ASUN) routed North Florida (6-8, 1-2) 105-66 on the road in UNF Arena on Saturday.
"(UNF has) a really good zone," FGCU head coach
Karl Smesko said. "I thought we did a good job moving the ball against it and catching it ready to shoot, so when we did get an opportunity, we shot a really good percentage from three."
Zderadicka's (Vienna, Austria/HAK Korneuburg) new career-high of 10 assists allowed her to join Brittany Kennedy (12),
Chelsea Banbury (10) and Shannon Murphy (10 twice) as one of the four, and she's just the seventh player in the Division-I era to reach that mark at least once. With her 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting that included a season-high three 3-pointers, she also notched the fifth double-double of her career and her first in the Green and Blue.
As a team, FGCU finished 38-for-69 from the field, including 19-for-37 (51.4 percent) from 3-point range to tie the team's season-high in long distance makes. The offensive efficiency also led to the third 100-point game of the season for the Green and Blue, which is a new Division-I era record for most in a season and ties the 2004-05 team for the overall mark.
Furthermore, the 105 points is also the second most scored against an ASUN opponent in the regular season (Lipscomb, 108, 2/27/14), and it was the 18th time in program history reaching the century mark. The 19 3-pointers also pushed the Eagles back into first-place nationally with 193 - ahead of Denver (186) and DePaul (184).
The win was FGCU's third straight to open the calendar year. The team also pushed its regular season ASUN winning streak to 10 straight and 16 of the past 17 dating back to last year. Nine of those 17 have come on the road, including two this year. The Eagles have now won 111 of its past 115 conference regular season games dating back to the 2011-12 season, and the team will close out a three-game road trip this coming Saturday at Kennesaw State.
"All wins are important," Smesko said. "Road wins are especially important. To be able to play good defense on the road, rebound on the road and give yourself a chance to win on the road is always a challenge after traveling a lot, but I thought our players had really good intensity throughout the game and played really well."

Keri Jewett-Giles (19),
Nasrin Ulel (18),

Destiny Washington (10) all scored in double figures, with
Washington (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North HS) recording her second straight double-double and third straight game scoring in double digits. She has 39 rebounds over the past four games.
Jewett-Giles (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar HS) poured in a career-high six 3-pointers among her 19 points and added four assists. It was her third straight game in double digits and her 12th of the season. In fact, her total from long distance against UNF is tied for the eighth-most against an ASUN opponent in program history, and her .750 (6-for-8) percentage is tied for third-best.
Ulel (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta HS) finished 7-for-16 from the field along with three assists and a career-high two blocks. She is now 11 points shy of 700 in her career after her 12th game with at least 10 this year. The 18-point output is her fifth-best total of the season.
Wingate (Atlanta, Ga./Stephenson HS), meanwhile, scored 14 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter. She went 5-for-6 from the field in those final 10 minutes and made 3-for-5 from 3-point range overall in just 13 minutes for her third-best scoring performance of the season.
In all, 11 different players scored for the Green and Blue, who also got five points and a game-high 11 rebounds from
Tytionia Adderly, six points and three assists from
Tanner Bryant (Washington Court House, Ohio/Miami Trace HS), five points apiece from
Kerstie Phills (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) and
Tyra Cox, three points from

Brittany Johnson.

Â
The game featured just one tie (2-2) as FGCU reeled off 10-0 and 8-0 runs in the first quarter to open up a 23-12 lead. After UNF trimmed its deficit to 10 early in the next quarter, the Eagles went on a 15-2 run and led 50-29 at the break.
A 3-pointer from Jewett-Giles in the final minute of the third pushed the lead to 33, and Wingate added nine points in the first two minutes of the fourth to make it 88-47. A 3-pointer from
Cox (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) gave FGCU 100 with 2:28 left, and
Johnson's (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North HS) layup with 1:11 left was the Green and Blue's final points of the game.
Notes
FGCU's 38 field goals made and .551 field goal percentage are both season-highs against Division-I opponents this year. Their .514 3-point percentage (19-for-37) is the 10th-best against an ASUN team in regular season play, and it's the only performance among the 10 with more than 14 makes.
Outside of Adderly and Washington, nobody else had more than three rebounds - although everyone who played had at least one.

COACH SMESKO
FGCU head coach Karl Smesko led the 2017-18 Eagles to another historic season. The Green and Blue finished 31-5 overall and 13-1 in ASUN play, capturing the program's eighth ASUN regular season championship and fifth ASUN tournament championship. The team finished the season ranked 25th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll, recaptured the NCAA record for most 3-point field goals made in a season with 431 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in seven seasons, where the Eagles knocked off 5th-seeded and No. 15 ranked Missouri in the opening round. It was the team's second tournament win over the past three appearances. Over the course of the season, FGCU knocked off three ranked teams - No. 15 Missouri, No. 20 Kentucky and No. 21 DePaul.
Over the past four seasons, Smesko has guided FGCU to three 30 plus win seasons while recording a 121-23 (.840) record overall. The now eight-time ASUN Coach of the Year rallied the 2016-17 team to its seventh straight 25-win campaign, culminating in an ASUN tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. In 2015-16, he was named the espnW mid-major coach of the year following a run that witnessed the Eagles claim a WNIT runner-up finish and a Division-I program best ever 33-6 record. In 2014-15, the team achieved its first-ever top-25 ranking and made another trip to the NCAA Tournament, where the Eagles earned a No. 7 seed and won the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament game, toppling No. 10 seed Oklahoma State.
Including the 2017-18 campaign, Smesko has guided the Eagles to 14-straight 20-win seasons and eight-straight 25-win seasons. He maintains a record of 508-118 (.812) overall in his career, including a 173-16 (.915) mark in ASUN play. Over the past seven + seasons, he has guided FGCU to a 109-4 (.965) record in conference play with four undefeated seasons. Smesko earned his 400th career coaching win in 2014-15 in just 493 career games, two games faster than UConn's Geno Auriemma. Entering 2018-19, he ranked among an elite list of just four active Division I coaches with a career win percentage of .800 or higher, joining Auriemma, Baylor's Kim Mulkey and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer in the esteemed group. Over the past year, first-year NCAA Division-I head coaches Nancy Fahey (Illinois) and Bart Brooks (Belmont) pushed the list to six.
