@FGCU_Softball Drops Rubber Match to Kennesaw State 6-0

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team (30-14, 4-5 ASUN) kept it a tight contest before (receiving votes) Kennesaw State (21-14, 10-2 ASUN) used a pair of three-run frames to pull away, as the Eagles fell in the Sunday finale, 6-0.

"Our players made some nice adjustments today but we still have some work to do," said head coach David Deiros. "It's now time to prep for our next series at JU."

After a three-run shot in the fourth inning by Kira Czyrklis gave KSU a 3-0 lead, the Owls tacked on three more in the fifth using a pair of singles to cap off the scoring.

FGCU had its biggest threat in the bottom of the second but the Eagles would leave the bases loaded. Newcomer Farley Callaghan (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) doubled to center with one out as back-to-back singles then filled the bags but the threat came to a close on a force at to home, followed by a fly out to right.

In the top of the fourth, KSU's first two batters reached on board with a double and a walk, setting up Czyrklis to drive a 2-2 pitch out of the yard. Going into the fifth, the visitors plated three more runs across, capitalizing on a defensive error while producing three base hits en route to the 6-0 final.

FGCU registered six hits while stranding five on the bases. Racquel Fournet (Windermere, Fla./Windermere Preparatory School) finished the afternoon going 2-for-3 at the dish.

In the circle, Riley Randolph (St. Petersburg, Fla./Northeast HS) gets tagged with the loss, (12-6), in her three innings of work.

UP NEXT
FGCU will hit the road and travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face the Dolphins (23-20, 4-4 ASUN) in three games beginning with the doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. JU currently sits in fourth place in the ASUN.
