DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The FGCU volleyball team (14-6) will make the long trip to Bethune-Cookman (10-11) on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup that will conclude a two-game road trip for the Green and Blue.

Following the mid-week tilt, FGCU will host North Florida (7 p.m. on Friday) and Jacksonville (2 p.m. on Sunday) this weekend.

ONE-SIDED
FGCU is 12-0 all-time against Bethune-Cookman dating back to a 3-0 win in Alico Arena on Sept. 8, 2007. The two teams have met at least once every season since 2012, and the Eagles have only dropped five sets in the series.

AXNER x 4
Dana Axner was named the ASUN freshman of the week for the fourth time on Monday afternoon. In doing so, she broke a tie with Amanda Carroll (2015), Daniele Serrano (2016) and Cortney VanLiew (2017) for the most in program history, and she is now just one shy of tying the ASUN's all-time record.

Axner (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman HS), who is also a one-time ASUN defensive player of the week, is on pace to become just the third player in the program's Division-I era with 500 digs in a season, joining Vanessa Benke (558, 2015) and Whitney Masters (519 in 2014 and 512 in 2013). Her 4.73 digs per set is currently first in the program's Division-I era, just ahead of Vanessa Benke's 4.65 in 2015.

The libero now ranks second and third, respectively, in the ASUN in digs per set and total digs (336). On top of that, her 82 assists ranks third on the team and 18th-best in the conference, while her 14 aces is tied for 16th-best. Furthermore, she has moved all the way up to 14th in the program's Division-I era in total digs, sitting just three shy of passing Holly Youngquist (2008) for 13th and nine shy of eclipsing Brooke Youngquist (2007) and Carroll (2017).

THE GREAT WALL OF SERRANO
Serrano (Sanford, Fla./Seminole HS) earned her second career ASUN defensive player of the week on Monday, tying Benke for the most in program history. She finished just one shy of her season-high with 11 kills in the win over Stetson, while adding six blocks (one solo). She then added nine kills and seven blocks against Liberty.

With her performance this past week, Serrano is now among the top two in the program's Division-I era in solo (45, 2nd), assisted (250, 2nd) and total blocks (295, 2nd). She has a chance to become the all-time leader in block assists and total blocks by the end of this season.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN NOTES
Bethune-Cookman's Jordan Jefferson and Shayla Eugene were named co-player and defensive player of the week for the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) on Monday. For Jefferson, it was her fifth weekly honor of the season, and Eugene earned her second consecutive award.

Jefferson leads her team with 249 kills, or 3.28 per set, and has a team-high 323 digs. Meraiah Hill leads the team in solo blocks (15), block assists (48) and total blocks (57.0). J'nai Higgins has the majority of the team's assists with 544, while the Wildcats are hitting only .164 as a team.

The Wildcats have won two straight entering Tuesday with wins over South Carolina State and Savannah State last weekend.

COACH BOTSFORD
Matt Botsford is in his fifth season as head coach of the FGCU women's volleyball program in 2018 after being hired on Feb. 10, 2014. In his four plus seasons, Botsford-led teams have compiled a 103-44 (.701) record overall, including a 49-15 (.766) record in ASUN play. He has taken the program to heights it has not seen in the Division-I era (2007-present) – registering at least 20 wins overall in three straight seasons and at least 10 wins in conference play four straight seasons. Furthermore, the team's offensive efficiency has drastically improved since Botsford started. In his first two seasons, his squad produced hitting percentages of .212 and .220. The past two, which have seen .267 and .256 percentages, are the third and fourth highest in program history. All four seasons under Botsford have seen a top-3 ASUN regular season finish and at least an ASUN semifinal appearance. His first two campaigns resulted in regular season runner-up finishes, and the past two have seen the Eagles advance to the tournament championship. On Sept. 10, 2016, Botsford led his team to a five-set win over Indiana in Alico Arena, which signified the program's first-ever win over a team from a Power-5 conference.
