SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The FGCU men's and women's cross country teams each had a pair of individuals compete in today's Joe Piane Invitational at Burke Golf Course hosted by Notre Dame.
In the men's 5 Mile Gold race, Carlin Berryhill (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef Senior HS) posted a time of 25:13.9, which was good for 18th place. Jan Figueroa (Casselberry, Fla./Lake Howell HS) came in 99th with a time of 26:43.9.
On the women's side, Carley Lutzow (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere HS) finished 52nd individually in the 5K Gold event with a time of 18:20.9, while Anita Munoz (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee HS) finished with the 140th best time at 19:25.5.
"I thought they competed well," FGCU head coach Cassandra Goodson said. "Overall it's been a good experience for our top runners to compete in one of the nation's premier cross country meets. For the men, it's tough to come back and run two 8k's in two weeks, but they had a phenomenal start and ran tough throughout. Both women competed hard. I know they have more to give though and we look forward to getting home and getting back to work."

IRMA RELIEF DONATIONS
In the wake of Hurricane Irma, many individuals and families throughout Southwest Florida are still in desperate need of assistance. To aid in those relief efforts, FGCU Athletics will be collecting donations at all Eagle home games for the immediate future, beginning with both of this weekend's women's soccer matches. Donation items most needed include: non-perishable food, clothing, household items and first-aid supplies. Additionally, those unable to attend upcoming home games can drop off donations in canisters located in the Alico Arena lobby. All donations will be given to those hardest hit in Lee and Collier counties.
