LAKEPOINT, Ga. – With a seventh-straight ASUN Conference title secured, the FGCU women's soccer team had seven players garner postseason awards, highlighted by a third-consecutive Player of the Year honor for
Tabby Tindell the league office announced Wednesday.
Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) becomes the first player in ASUN history to win a superlative award in each of her four years as well as the first to be awarded the ASUN Player of the Year honor three-times. The senior forward was the lone unanimous superlative selection and was also named First Team All-Conference. Three additional Eagles –
Ashley Parks (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette HS),
Ali Rogers (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS), and
Paulina Speckmaier (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida) – also earned First Team accolades.
The freshman season of
Lindsey Patton (Jacksonville, Fla./Oakleaf HS) was rewarded with a Second Team All-Conference nod in addition to an All-Freshmen Team selection. Meanwhile,
Emilie Olsen (Frekhaug, Norway/Tertnes VGS) and
Melissa Weck (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) garnered All-Freshmen Team honors as well.
Tindell capped the most decorated career in ASUN history with three more career records and continued to lead the conference in the major offensive categories. The Ocala- native led the ASUN in goals (13), assists (8) and points (34) this season after topping the conference in goals and assists in each of her three previous seasons. In addition to her conference rankings, Tindell also remains one of the premier goal-scoring threats in the country and one of the more complete players. The senior ended the regular season ranked second nationally in game-winning goals (7), third in total points and eighth in total goals. During her historic career, Tindell has broken ASUN and FGCU records in goals, points and game-winning goals while also overtaking the FGCU assists record. Perhaps even more impressive, Tindell is one of only three active players with 50 goals and 25 assists while also standing alone as the nation's active leader in game-winning goals (30).
Rogers earns her first career post-season honor, garnering First Team All-Conference honors after posting one of the best seasons of her career. The redshirt-senior began the year scoring a goal against San Francisco and the winner opposite UC-Davis. Rogers matched her career-high late in the year, leveling a crucial road match against Kennesaw State, a game FGCU would go on to win en route to its seventh-straight ASUN regular season title. The midfielder also had two assists to her name, both finding Tindell for a header. The first assist came on the road, a 1-0 win over Miami and the second on Senior Night against Jacksonville. With 10 career goals, Rogers moved into a tie for tenth place all-time at FGCU while notching six assists for 26 career points.
Earning her fourth career postseason accolade, Speckmaier finds herself on the ASUN's First Team for the third time in her career. A crucial part of FGCU's midfield, Speckmaier cemented herself in FGCU's record books with a three goal, six assist senior season to place Speckmaier in the top 5 in career goals (22), assists (21), and points (65) in FGCU history. The midfielder's production helped FGCU remain near the top of the ASUN in goals scored. Her first of six assists on the year came late in the match against FIU, a performance she followed with her first goal of the season against UCF. Her six assists put her in a tie for sixth in the ASUN this season and within the top 75 nationally.
The final FGCU representative on the ASUN's First Team, Parks bounced back from an injury last season to replace the 2015 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year,
Emma Blackwell. While Parks did not collect a point this season, the St. Louis-native more than filled in for the graduated Blackwell while playing alongside true-freshman Patton and in front of another true-freshman Weck. The centerback helped FGCU allow only 13 goals this season, the fifth-lowest total in ASUN history. As the schedule turned to conference action, the Green and Blue silenced their opposition once again, allowing only four goals – the lowest in the ASUN and four goals fewer than Lipscomb who finished second in that category. FGCU's backline helped the Eagles post nine clean sheets, the most in the ASUN.
Fellow centerback Patton earned a spot on the ASUN's Second Team and the All-Freshmen Team in her first season at FGCU. The Jacksonville-native started every contest for the Eagles and played in all but 12 minutes. Patton recorded her first career point against St. Bonaventure and tallied another assist against Kennesaw State. Named a Top 100 Freshmen by TopDrawerSoccer.com, Patton saved her first career goal for the final week of the regular season, scoring the opener in a must-win match against Stetson to put the Eagles in first place. She added another assist in the regular season finale, to end the season with one goal and three assists all while helping FGCU post a 31-13 goal differential in the regular season and a 14-4 margin in ASUN play. For her goal and assist over the final week of the season, Patton was named the ASUN's Defensive Player of the Week.
A unanimous All-Freshmen Team honoree, Olsen started all 17 contests for FGCU and hit her stride late in the year scoring five goals over the final eight matches. The Norwegian proved to be more than just a capable strike partner for Tindell, tallying a total of 13 points this season. The freshman ended the season eighth in the ASUN in both points and goals. Olsen tallied the first point of her career against FIU and produced another against UCF. Olsen stepped up toward the end of the season, scoring five goals, including two against USC Upstate and another at Lipscomb, to help the Eagles win their seventh-straight title.
Posting one of the most successful seasons in FGCU history, Weck stepped into goal following the departure of
Brittany Brown and led the ASUN with nine shutouts. Her 0.76 goals against average was also tops in the conference. Nationally, Weck finished the year 44th in goals against average and 11th in shutouts. During conference play, Weck was nearly impossible to beat, posting a 0.56 goals against average, the only goalkeeper to post a goals against average in conference play below 0.98. Weck's performances earned her ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors Oct. 3 and was also named to TopDrawer's Team of the Week Sept. 6 following an 11 save performance against Alabama.
With one goal already accomplished, the Eagles take the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ASUN Championships and welcome either No. 4 Kennesaw State or No. 5 Jacksonville to the FGCU Soccer Complex for the semifinals Nov. 4. The championship is scheduled for Nov. 6.

COACH JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach
Jim Blankenship, who was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the ASUN Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just 10 seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to nine double-digit win seasons, culminating with ASUN Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN Tournament titles and became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles went on to win the 2014 ASUN Tournament and hosted the first NCAA Championship event on campus. The Eagles earned their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance with the 2015 ASUN Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA game at USF in 2015, while finishing 24th in the nation. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a 127-46-20 (70.6 W%) overall record through the first 10 seasons of the program's existence, including a 66-10-11 (81.8 W%) mark in the ASUN. Blankenship's impressive career record of 367-117-31 (74.2 W%) over 25 seasons has come while leading FGCU, the University of Miami, Lynn University and St. Thomas University.
